Believe it or not, landscaping can be an important part of a good home security plan. A burglar who is "casing the joint" from the street will choose the house with tall shrubs and trees that provide hiding places. Homes with little or no outdoor lighting are preferred targets as well. So, how can you landscape to protect against burglars while still creating an aesthetically pleasing yard? Here are a few tips:You don't need to eliminate trees, but keep them trimmed back from your house; tree branches can be used as a ladder if they are next to a window or skylight.Mow your lawn regularly; an unkempt lawn can suggest to a thief that the owners are away on a trip.Store ladders, lawn chairs, and picnic tables out of sight lest they be used as a means to reach high windows.Trim back shrubs growing near doors and walkways, keeping them 3 feet or shorter in height. Also, don't allow shrubs to block any of your windows.Adding gravel under windows makes for noisy footing for would-be thieves.Consider planting thorny bushes (of the low growing variety) around windows. Some examples are: Hawthorne, Rose Shrub, and Barberry.Forgo privacy and keep your trees and shrubs trimmed back in order to allow a clear view of the outside of your house. Having neighbors that can see your doors and windows can help deter thieves even if you happen to be out of town.Keep your yard well lit. Motion-detecting lights make decent choices; body heat-triggered sensors are even better (less likely to be triggered by a waving branch or a passing animal).Dogs are not a complete home security plan, but can make good home protectors because they have keener hearing than humans, along with a propensity for barking at strangers. Dogs training can help your dog learn exactly what you want him to do..

Once you own a motorhome, there will come the need for some accessories to either enhance the performance of the vehicle or to replace a defective one. There are several accessories to buy when it comes to motorhomes including trailers and tires, camping equipment, towing equipment, refrigerators, camping supplies, RV televisions, carriers ladders, leveling jacks, interior and exterior lights, sun visors and wheel covers. For motorhome owners there is the need to give your vehicle maximum protection from the water with high quality undercoat that will ensure that it is protected form rust. The motorhome may also need to be fitted with plumbing accessories so you don't have to hassle too much over defective taps and storage tanks. You can purchse all of your plumbing from local stores and have it fixed up by a plumber. If you are renting, then you can be on the lookout for a motorhome that has the following accessories as these will ensure you have a comfortable stay. You should inspect the motorhome you want to rent for the following accessories: beds, wardrobes, sofa, and storage space, living/ kitchen accessories, televison shelf, etc. If your motor home has not got a roof vent, you can arange to have that have that accessory so you can have circulating air to prevent stuffiness in the rooms. Perhaps the most purchased accessory for motorhomes is a trailer which needs to be carefully researched before puchase. Before you buy a trailer for your motorhome, be sure to check out the following points to make you get a good deal and also to make sure you buy right.First find out if the trailer meets the towing capacity of your vehicle. If it exceeds, you will put extra drain on engine of your vehicle which may lead to a beakdown or shortened life span.Check to see the maximum load the trailer can carry and see if it is enough for the type of load you want to carry most of the time. Examine the trailer design to see if it will fit the shape and length of the items you want to carry. Double-axle trailers are good for sail boats whilst single ones are good for light items like a tent kit. Buying accessories for a motorhome follow the same mechanics like you do for any other purchse. The best recommendation is to determine your needs and buy appropriately so you have uninterrepted use of the items during your camping..

February 3, 2003 I remember that day well. I even celebrate it every year. That was the day I finally decided to make my escape from the Rat Race. For Ten years I lugged Welding Equipment up and down Train Car Ladders, doing the repair work on them so the company could make a fortune in their shipping business. Corporate downsizing required me to work 12 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week to fill the void of layed off workers. And any complaining I did was met with the same response: "You should be lucky you even have a job". But the pain in my legs and back were telling me something different. It was telling me to GET OUT, NOW! So I did (God Forbid we should listen to our own Instincts) But every ending is a new beginning. Thus started my two years of Internet Marketing Purgatory. Buying every product promising me financial freedom. Throwing failed project after failed project out there on the internet while I paced the floor at 4:00 A.M. wondering how I was going to make next months mortgage payment. Those were hard times. But I wouldn't have it any other way. When you take away that safety net (9 to 5 job) you will focus more than you ever thought you possibly could. You will conjure up faith from deep inside that you never thought/knew you had. And you will see (and feel) the difference between financial freedom and paid slavery as clear as night and day..

Medieval siege weaponry was required in any self-respecting war leader's arsenal in a time when castles with thick defense walls were common and cities surrounded by large, fortified walls were not out of place. With warfare commonplace, it's little wonder the variety of medieval siege weaponry is great. After all, what was an attacking band of raiders to do when presented with an "impenetrable" castle wall? Break it down, of course, using one of the many designs of medieval siege weaponry available. One of the earliest examples of medieval siege weaponry appeared around the 300s AD when the ballista was created. The ballista wasn't the most accurate in the line of medieval siege weaponry, but it could launch a wave of spears further than human arms could muster. Created using two wooden arms, tightly wound ropes and a cord to assist in the hurling of deadly projectiles, this example of medieval siege weaponry used torsion force to launch objects. The Romans added their own model to the list of medieval siege weaponry when they created the mangonel. This model called for only one wooden arm. The mangonel, however, had somewhat of a design flaw in that in called for a wooden barrier to be constructed. A ferocious example of medieval siege weaponry came online in the 12th century with the deploying of the trebuchet. The trebuchet used a long wooden arm rested on a pivot point, which acted as a large lever. A projectile was placed on one end and warriors in this earlier version of the trebuchet pulled on ropes attached to the other end to essentially swing the arm around and hurl the stone. As far as examples of commonly used medieval siege weaponry are concerned, however, catapults and their sister designs do not hold the only billing. Other tools were readily available to would-be conquerors. The battering ram, for example, has been used through the ages and still is employed by modern law enforcement. This version of medieval siege weaponry involved the creation of a very heavy weight placed on wheels used to help batter fortifications. It was usually made of a large tree trunk, and sometimes rather than wheels, a group of warriors or a sling frame helped provide the force necessary to crack fortifications using this simple, yet effective, example of medieval siege weaponry. Other items in the medieval siege weaponry arsenal included ladders and not-so-simple siege towers. Ladders were employed simply to scale castle walls. If the defenses stopped this measure, siege towers might be built to allow archers clear lines of attack to enemies standing on castle walls. As far as medieval siege weaponry is concerned, siege towers were somewhat difficult due to their cumbersome nature. Towers were rectangular and often constructed on four wheels. They were as tall as the castle walls or taller and were designed to protectarchers, warriors and ladders as an army advanced. The downfall of siege towers in the long line of medieval siege weaponry, however, was their size and the propensity of the defending army to hurl projectiles at them. The examples of medieval siege weaponry vary greatly, but whatever their design they all had one purpose ? to deliver an army to victory. For more medieval siege weapons information, including how to build a catapult, visithttp://www.medieval-castle-siege-weapons.com/medieval-siege-weapons-index.html.

Superstitions are part of our heritage, transporting us to a distant past that links with the roots of our culture. The ancient lores of our forefathers are still very much alive, many having remained unchanged for hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years.Rational thought and the advance of science together cast doubt on the real dangers involved yet many of us still feel we ought to be careful. There are hundreds of common daily activities which are linked to superstition, each culture having its variations. Even those of you who say "I'm not superstitious!" have probably at some point tried to avoid walking under a ladder, stepping on cracks, knocked on wood, blessed a person sneezing, or crossed your fingers. Just in case. Here are some of the more common superstitions and their meanings: 1. It's bad luck to walk under a ladder. A leaning ladder forms a triangle with the wall and ground. Triangles represent the Holy Trinity, and violating the Trinity by breaking it (walking through it) would put you in league with the devil himself. Considering what Christians did to those who were considered to be in league with the devil, it's hardly surprising that leaning ladders were avoided at all cost. 2. Friday the Thirteenth The idea that a this particular date would bring bad luck has its roots in both Norse and Christian beliefs. The Scandinavians believed that the number 13 was unlucky due to the mythological 12 demigods being joined by a 13th, an evil one, who brought misfortune upon man. Christ was said to have been crucified on Friday and the number of guests at the the Last Supper was 13, with the 13th guest being Judas, the traitor. 3. God Bless You The blessing of those who sneeze started when the great plague took hold of Europe. Sufferers would sneeze violently, a sign that they would soon die. As a result, The Pope passed a law requiring people to bless the sneezerAt the same time it was expected that anybody sneezing would cover their mouth with a cloth or their hand. This was obviously to stop the spreading of the disease but many believed that it was to keep the soul intact. Sneezing 'into the air' would allow the soul to escape and death would be imminent. Until the plague struck things were very different. Those who sneezed were congratulated on expelling evil from their bodies. 4. Black Cats In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Bast was a black, female cat. Christians, wanting to rid society of all traces of other religions, convinced the ignorant that black cats were demons in disguise and should thus be destroyed. The kindly ladies who cared for the cats were often destroyed in the process, being condemned as witches. A demon black cat crossing your path would create a barrier of evil, cutting you off from God and blocking the entrance to heaven. 5. Spilling Salt During the middle ages salt was a very expensive commodity used mainly for medicinal purposes. Spillage was to be avoided at all costs. The idea that it is unlucky to do so probably stems from the belief that Judas spilt salt during the last supper. Throwing spilt salt over the left shoulder is linked to its medicinal use. If it could not be administered, the next best thing was to throw it into the eye of the evil spirits that brought sickness upon us. These spirits were believed to lurk behind a person's shoulder, waiting for an opportunity to strike. 6. Fingers Crossed Probably the most widely used superstition these days and used by making the sign of the Christian faith with our fingers thus preventing evil spirits destroying our chances of good fortune. 7. Knock on Wood This goes back to the days before Christianity made its entrance. It was believed that good spirits lived in trees and that by knocking on anything made from wood we could call upon these spirits for protection against misfortune. There are many, many more such superstitions. Every culture has them. Perhaps they have survived in our world of scientific explanations due to our desire to keep the child inside us alive. Through superstition, we are able to take part in the world of make believe. I couldn't possibly say that I still believe in Father Christmas, but I can say "God Bless You" when anybody sneezes. And just for the record, I don't like walking under ladders either. Who knows, a tin of paint may just fall down and hit me!.

One of the many tools that home owners use regularly is a ladder. Whether you need to change the porch light bulb, clean the gutters or put something in the top of the closet. You may need a ladder to get the job done! While ladders seem harmless enough and they are useful tools, accidents can still happen if you don't follow some simple safety tips. You may be shocked to hear that each year; more than 400,000 people are injured from a ladder accident and end up in the emergency room or doctor's office. Some injuries are as minor as cuts and scrapes while other injuries have resulted in broken bones or worse. Below we are going to share some safety tips with you to ensure that you are properly using your ladder to get your chores done!1. Before using the ladder, inspect it and make sure all the screws and side rails are in place. Stepping on to a ladder that isn't secure, can result in you taking a fall which is exactly what we want to avoid!2. Check the bottom of the ladder to make sure there isn't any dirt, paint or liquid that has accumulated and will result in the ladder not being sturdy. For your safety, try to use ladders with non skid spurs ? this helps the ladder to stay in place and prevent you from sliding.3. Make sure to properly set up your ladder before climbing on. The ladder should be on a firm, level surface ? never place a ladder on a surface that is uneven. Once you are certain the ladder is secure and level then make sure to lock the side rails to better secure the ladder.4. Always position your ladder as close to the work area as you can. Do not overreach or stretch to the side, this could result in a fall if you lose your balance. It might take a little longer to finish your task if you keep getting off the ladder to reposition it but its best for your safety.5. Never move the ladder with anything on top such as a hammer, paint can or the like. It won't feel too good to have a can of paint end up hitting you in the head ? any objects for that matter!6. Don't be lazy and pull out the step ladder if you will need the bigger ladder! Stretching and overreaching is one of the most common ways that people get hurt when using a ladder. With a bigger ladder you also have more bracing and you can lean up against it while working.7. Most importantly always climb and descend the ladder facing it and holding on with both hands whenever possible. Also be sure to take one step at a time, if you miss a step that can end up with you falling from the ladder.By following these few safety tips you will be able to avoid any unnecessary accidents or trips the emergency room. I know these tips sound like common sense but I see people make these simple mistakes daily for lack of thinking while working on something and trying to hurriedly finish..
